Defining the identity of a type

If you intend to chart your data onto a chart that already contains entities pertinent to your investigation, you may wish to define the chart identity for the entity types. This may allow entities to merge with those that already exist on your chart.

You can define a separate identity for an entity or link type in exactly the same way as defining the type label.

To define a chart identity
  1. Build up the way the identity should look:
    • To use a field in the identity, locate and select the field in the tree view and click on the right arrow to move that field into the Structure. Alternatively double-click on the field name.
    • To include free text, type the text into the Free text box and click on the right arrow beside the box to move it into the Structure.
    • In the same way, select a special character from the Special character list and click on the right arrow beside it to move it into the Structure.
The next item you include will appear directly below the selected entry. If more than one entry is selected, a newly included item will appear at the bottom of the list.
  2. To reorder the parts of the identity, select the part you wish to move and click on the Up or Down buttons.
  3. To delete any part of an identity, select it and click Delete.
  4. When you have finalized the structure, click OK.
