Defining general properties of an entity type

The general properties of an entity type include the name, and details about how it gets displayed on a chart.

Use the General page to set the following entity type properties:
  • Name

This is the name you have given to the entity type. You can change it here as required. The name must be unique across all entity and link types.

  • Comment

A further description of the use of this entity type or any other comments you wish to make. This field is available during the configuration but will not appear anywhere in Analyst's Notebook.

  • Predefined representation

An entity can be represented in an Analyst's Notebook chart as an icon, event frame or theme line. Use the Predefined representation drop-down list to select the required representation.

Note: To ensure that a chart has optimum layout properties it is good practice to determine which type of chart an analyst predominantly requires, association or timeline. Select icon for association charts and event frame or theme line for time line charts.
  • Default icon

Shows the icon that will be used in an Analyst's Notebook chart. Use the Default icon drop-down list to select a different icon.

There may be pictures stored or referenced by your database and you can choose to display entities using pictures instead of icons. If you choose to use pictures from the database, the default icon will be used if no picture is available for a specific instance.
