Viewing field properties

The Field Properties dialog displays:
  • the table name to which the field belongs
  • the data type of the field
  • whether the field is indexed
  • whether the file is case sensitive
These are the settings reported by the database. You cannot change these settings, only view them.

Adding and editing aliases and comments

Aliases and comments help you to remember what tables and fields are used for. For example, you could add the alias Name to a field called F1 if you know that the field contains people's names.

You can see an alias in the tooltip for a field.

To add aliases and comments, enter the required text into the Alias and Comment boxes as required.
Note: You can also add aliases and comments to tables in a similar manner.

Replacing original names with aliases

You can choose to display all of the table and field names as their aliases and you can toggle between using aliases and their original names. To do this, select Show Aliases from the View menu. When a check mark appears next to the Show Aliases command, all the table and field names will be displayed as their aliases. The tooltips will display the original table and field names.
