Running a Visual Query

You can run Visual Queries directly from the Saved queries list, or from the tab that opens when you create or open a query. In both cases, the query results appear on a new page in the query's tab.

About this task

When you come to run a Visual Query, there is no difference between the queries that you've created and any queries that have been shared with you. If you can see a Visual Query in the list, then you can open it and run it.

Procedure

To run a Visual Query and examine its results:
  1. Either select a query in the Saved queries list and click Run, or open (or create) a query and click Run.

If a tab for the query is not already open, Analyst's Notebook opens a new tab with the query's name. The query runs and the results are displayed on a new page in the tab.

  2. After you receive results, you can refine the conditions or use filtering to reduce the result set. To filter results, select a value (or a value range) for a particular property or metadata category. Each filter is displayed at the top of the window. To remove a filter, click the cross next to it.
  3. You can also filter the results further using text search terms. Type your text into the input field and press Enter. If the text is found in the search results, it is highlighted. Click X on the input field to clear the text, or replace the text with a new search term.
  4. Use the Copy to buttons at the top of the results list to copy selected records to a chart.

If the results contain entity and link records, then selecting Include context automatically includes the associated links when you copy entity records to the chart. For example, if your results include people and the cars that they own, when you copy a Person record to the chart, their Vehicle records and link records are also copied.

    Note:
Include context only affects records that are in the list of results. If the query structure specifies that linked vehicles should not appear in the results, you cannot use Include context to retrieve them.
