Importing custom types

You can locate and select custom types that were saved in import specifications, and import them into your custom palette.

About this task

Import specifications define how imported data is converted into entities and links in Analyst's Notebook. When custom entity and link types are created as part of the import process, they can be saved with the import specification. Your local and workgroup designs can be a good source of previously created custom types, and can save you time in needing to create them from scratch.

Procedure

To import custom types from import specifications:

  1. If the Insert from Palette panel is not visible, then from the Home tab, select Insert from Palette.

  2. In the panel, click the Custom Item Types Custom Icon Types
drop-down in either the entity or the link pane, and then select Import Custom Entity (or Link) Types to display a list of the available import specifications.

  3. Select a specification. The custom types that it contains are listed, along with their property types.

  4. Select a custom type from the list. Hold the Shift key to select multiple types. Click OK to import them into your custom palette.

Results

Your imported custom entity and link types are saved in their respective palettes, and available to use on the chart.
